ARTIST STATEMENT
For many years, I've expressed myself as a singer and voiceover actor. I sang opera and recorded tv and radio commercials. All the while, I experimented with many different forms of art, from caricatures to abstract. I dabbled in oils, watercolors, pencil, pen and markers and acrylics. In more recent years, I've been painting non-stop, using acrylics as my preferred medium. An avid fan of Franz Kline and Robert Motherwell, I am deeply moved by the drama and raw contrast of black and white elements in their paintings. Their works have excited, inspired and guided me in finding my own style within the realm of abstract expressionism and, specifically, abstract minimalism.

Ultimately, I strive to tell a story using fewer 'words' and an economy of color. Less is more. Adding, then subtracting, then adding again, building layer upon layer to reveal a true expression, is a painstaking and joyful process. This expression of heart, soul and subconscious is a journey through light and darkness, with surprising discoveries along the way. It's truly exhilarating! I find it most gratifying when others are moved and inspired by my efforts.

Inspired by the beauty all around us, my goal as an artist living in this infinitely diverse world is:
Simplify, simplify, simplify.

BIO
I've always appreciated the challenge of pure expression. I started singing as a teenager in high school and studied classical music/opera at Northwestern University. I moved to LA and pursued a career in singing. This star wasn't born yet, but highlights of those 5 years include a stint in Joseph Papp's tour of Pirates of Penzance, various solo gigs in oratorio and opera and some exciting work as a studio musician.
After returning to Chicago, I divided my time between waiter gigs, singing in the Chicago Symphony Chorus, various Lyric Opera productions in the chorus,  solo opportunities on stage, radio announcer and various jobs as a voiceover talent. I was an original and long-time member of the a cappella group 4 on the Floor.
Through all of this, I've dabbled and evolved as a painter- experimenting in all the mediums and styles. I find abstract expressionism, using acrylics, to be my preferred mode of expression. Amazing things happen when I surrender myself to the canvas and paint.
My music endeavors have also evolved. I've taken up guitar and the role of cantorial soloist; singing and playing for the High Holidays and life cycle events. I enjoy the freedom, (and challenge), of accompanying myself. And the spiritual aspect is invigorating.
I live in the northern suburbs of Chicago and I'm so proud and inspired by my beautiful daughter, Annie.
...and, then, there's my sweet dog, Buddy. :-)
